We've Found An Astronaut's Speedmaster ProfessionalAn Astronaut's Speedmaster!Fratelloreplica watches is worked up and proud to inform you one of the actual astronaut's Speedmaster Professional replica watches worn by Reinhard Furrer. Reinhard Furrer was considered one of ESA's astronauts during the Toyota tows mission in 1985.About the 30th of October 1985, the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted removed from Pad A of Launch Complex 39 at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. This mission, a Spacelab mission that was funded and directed by [West] Germany was 'nicked' D-1 form official Space Shuttle rule STS-61-A. D-1 represents Deutschland-1 as well as a much of this succesful mission was controlled because of the German Space Operations Center in Oberpfaffenhofen (near Munich) in Germany, instead through the regular NASA control centers.Reinhard Furrer was one of several payload specialists performing scientific experiments aboard with the Takes space shuttle Challenger, indeed controlled through the German Space Operations Center. Now, some watch enthusiasts know that Reinhard Furrer wore this Sinn 140 chronograph watch. But apparently, he also had this astronaut's Speedmaster Professional ref.145.022 as part of his possession. Not just any Speedmaster Professional, only one issued to NASA in 1978 (more on that later). However, this astronaut's Speedmaster Professional was recovered from his heritage by his family (Reinhard Furrer died in the plane crash in 1995) and fond of a detailed friend (another former astronaut). We've got in touch with him and a week ago we have this watch within our hands. This astronaut's Speedmaster Professional was sent by Omega to NASA on special request and also as area of the Alaska III project. Every request Omega handled for NASA was given the work name Alaska. You would possibly understand the white Project Alaska exclusive edition that Omega produced not too long ago, however, which was a re-edition from the Alaska II project Omega did for NASA. The 1st Alaska project watch became a titanium model that Omega produced and can be observed in the Omega museum in Bienne. We have now no further precisely the specific request from NASA though. In 1978, Omega was wanted a few replica watches for re-certification by NASA. This re-certification was important for the room Shuttle program that has been yet in the future (1981 - 2011). For EVA purposes, Omega already delivered the astronaut's Speedmaster Professional since 1965/1966 and now arrived to do some additional tests about the watch with the Toyota tows missions. As shown below, we've found a NASA document by having an official description on the watch using the NASA SED Production Number for the back from the watch:Omega delivered three different replica watches in 1978, the Speedmaster Professional 145.022, the Speedmaster '125' (covered here) and also the Speedmaster Speedsonic that has a tuning fork. Within the 2nd of November 1978, NASA announced the winner of the tender. Yet again, the mechanical hand-wound Speedmaster Professional ruled other sellers (30 brands were wanted a chronograph) and as outlined by Omega, NASA ordered then 56 pieces of this astronaut's Speedmaster Professional for that symbolic volume of 1 cent each.On my own wrist today, watches one of these 56 components of the Omega Speedmaster Professional that is transported to NASA buy rolex watch . Curiously, which has a dial that's a bit not the same as the off the shelf Speedmaster Professional (radial Arabic indexes within the counters) but definitely delivered by doing this to NASA. The astronaut's Speedmaster case back has the NASA engravings, an item number and also a serial number. For safety and privacy reasons, we blurred the serial number through the case back. The watch when we received it, cracked crystal (accident with the current owner), how the FW watchmaker replaced for him.Case back inscription with NASA product number and blurred serial number. The most significant question is how Reinhard Furrer got this astronaut's Speedmaster Professional. He was doing work for ESA and ESA astronauts were forced to pick their particular replica watches (the majority of them preferred and wore the Seiko 100 sports chronograph ref. A829-A6019). Did he receive it from another astronaut (colleague at NASA) or did NASA in Florida issued one to him? If there is someone on the market who can assist us to achievable, we would be really thankful. The latest owner wears the watch on this kevlar Omega strap, vintage watches but we've wear it a NASA-like velcro strap (GasGas Bones produces them) for a couple in the pictures. We wish to thank the actual person who owns the watch for letting us enjoy it here on Fratelloreplica watches, thank OMEGA for his or her help especially thank expert Brandon Thomas for input with this article.Update: We merely received a tiny correct. Evidently - using the archives at Omega - who's wasn't the Speedmaster 125 that has been sent to the tender with NASA, even so the Omega Chronograph ref.11003, which later on had become the Omega Seamaster FIFA chronograph. The Speedmaster 125 is mentioned in Omega's Enable you to Time book though, as candidate but their archives say otherwise.Next week, we will have another cool - but slightly less exciting - Speedmasters to protect during Speedy Tuesday!
